Elite excels @ Penn Relays
Team US Elite continued their
wonderful progress toward becoming the number one USATF track and field club and solidify their hold as the number two sprint
club by collecting three silver medals and a bronze at the historical Penn Relays.
The men’s 4x100m relay

- USA), Tanko Braimah (Raleigh, NC – Ghana), DeRico Tilley (Mobile,
AL – USA) and Bryon Gibson (Atlanta, GA – USA)
was forced into 2nd by a championship record run of 39.82.

NFL Hopefuls Get a Look At Redskins Park
By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com

April 4, 2008

A year ago, Alex Buzbee, Sam Hollenbach and Marcus Mason arrived at Redskins Park hoping to fulfill an NFL
dream.
First they had to stand out from the crowd of about 70 local college players working out for coaches and scouts.
Buzbee, Hollenbach and Mason did enough to warrant an invite to training camp. From there, they earned a place on the
Redskins' roster and practice squad last season.
On Friday, the next batch of NFL hopefuls--69 in all--arrived at Redskins Park.
The workout was a chance for local college players to be evaluated by the Redskins' coaches and scouts in an NFL surrounding.
To attend, the player had to be draft eligible and either played college or high school football in the Washington, D.C.
region.
The bulk of players came from local colleges, such as Maryland, Howard, Bowie State and Georgetown. Players from Syracuse,
Boston College, Delaware, North Carolina and Virginia Tech were also on hand.
Perhaps the top prospect in attendance was Maryland linebacker Erin Henderson, the brother of Minnesota Vikings linebacker
E.J. Henderson (also a Maryland grad).
Henderson is expected to be a second- or third-round pick in the April 26-27 NFL Draft.
He completed his junior season at Maryland last year and recorded 133 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception
and four fumble recoveries.
Another top college prospect on hand was West Virginia's Owen Schmitt, a top-rated fullback. Schmitt, a 6-3, 250-pounder,
is expected to be a third- or fourth-round selection in the draft.
Maryland running back Keon Lattimore and Richmond wide receiver Arman Shields were also in attendance. Lattimore has been
projected as a fifth-round draft pick, while Shields is thought to be a sixth-rounder.

team makes championship final.
Maryland Club sees early season success.
Tuesday, January 15, 2008
On the road to the 2008 Olympics, local US Elite track and field
club started it journey with some impressive early season performances. Two athletes have qualified for the US Indoor National
championship, local high school and Garfield alum Kira Sims will be making her third consecutive trip in the women’s pole vault. Sims booked her trip with
a three feet winning performance this past weekend at the Doug Raymond
Invitational @ Kent
State, Ohio.
Kira Sims success has to be greatly contributed to a return to her glory
days with college coach Dennis Mitchell. Sims made the move back to Ohio to try and secure
a spot on the 2008 Beijing Olympic team. Thus far the moves
seem to have paid off with two performances over 13 feet in two meets this season. Kira
will be returning to home to compete in the Maryland Invitational schedule for Saturday, January 19th, 2008.
New comer and Baltimore native Rondrick Parker competing with the club for the first time won the Gulden Relays @ Bucknell University 60m dash
title with a US National qualifying mark. Parker was also the 2nd leg on the winning 4x200m relay team. UMBC Alum
Adam Grossman finished 2nd behind Parker for a second week in a row
but this time it was on the 60m dash unlike the pervious week in the 200m dash. Grossman was the lead off leg on the winning
4x200m which included Godson Akinnawo and Forestville High Alum Clifford Wong on the anchor leg.
Also at the Gulden Relays, team president Treisha Thorpe-Dulgarian won
the 500m dash to drop her seasonal best by three seconds. Central
High School Alum LeKisha Barnaby
placed 2nd in the 60m hurdles in her first meet of the season.
Club vice-president Keishia Thorpe-Randolph now residing in Atlanta, GA
won the UMES Season opener 400m (Dec. 4th) in 58.04 and lower her season best in the event in placing 3rd
at the Ed S. Temple Classic.

US Elite track club wins and set meet record in 3 events.
USATF National Championship, Icahn stadium, July 13-14, 2007
Two years ago hungry for a good club to compete with and tired of the politics of the
old boy's network, twins Central Missouri State All-American Treisha Thorpe-Dulgarian and former Howard University standout
Keisha Thorpe started the U.S. Elite International Track and Field Club. Primarily a women's club the first year (2005)
– this year saw a huge increase in male membership. On Saturday, July 14th, 2007 – the twin's dreams came full
circle as their club won three National club crowns including both men and women sprint medley relays and the women's 800m
run, all in a national club championship record time. Most of the athletes are from Maryland, but includes elite athletes
from Texas, New York, Alabama and Louisiana.
The
winning started on day one as former LSU All-American and Grenadian national champion Neisha Bernard-Thomas won the 800m run
in the new meet record (2:03.94). Former Maryland State Champion and Maryland Eastern Shore standout Ronnie Beard (14.45)
and former Maryland State champion and Crimson Tide standout Byron Gibson (14.45) qualified for the 110m hurdle finals and
former Texas Tech. All American and Bahamas National 200m Champion Michael Mathieu qualified for the finals (20.84). Co-founder
Keishia fighting through pain and suffering, achieved a personal best (56.84) and (25.2) in the 400m and 200m dash respectively,
and just missed a point in one of the events.
On day
two, former Howard standout Tilita Lutterloh collected a bronze medal in the triple jump which bettered the previous meet
record. Gibson (14.34) and Beard (14.39) placed 5th and 6th respectively in the men's 110m hurdles final. Mathieu collected
a silver medal in the 200m dash final in 20.99. The relays showed the Elite's true strength – the team. The
men's 4x100m team comprised of South Alabama 100m and 200m school record holder DeRico Tilley, former Long Island University
champion Jeremy Bascom, Northeast Conference and UMBC champion Adam Grossman and Bryon Gibson. They lost at the line
to the pre-favorite Executive Track Club (40.57 to 40.61). It's the closest anyone have come to defeating the sprint powerhouse
in recent years whose team included the 1st and 2nd place winners in the 100m dash finals. The
sprint medley (200 – 100 – 100 – 400) was not even close as U.S. Elites dominated both the men and women's
race. First the women's team of Keishia Thorpe, Latisha Moulds, Treisha Thorpe-Dulgarian and Neisha Bernard-Thomas left the
competition in the dust create from Harlem River breeze to win by over three second (1:44.53). On the men's side, the
race was over at the gun as Michael Mathieu fresh off his silver medal performance in the 200m dash put the team in the lead
for good and DeRico Tilley and Adam Grossman extended the lead to give Andrew Peresta a smooth and efficient run to the gold
medal taking down teams - runner-up champion Shore AC and the Executive Track Club. K. Thorpe finished 5th in the
400m hurdles (1:02.14).
Overall
the women's team with five (5) athletes finished 8th with 30 points and the men's team with 10 athletes finished 7th with
39 points.
