Slaying the Giant of Procrastination

Text

Eph 5: 15

15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

The meaning of Procrastination

The act of putting off of something.

The act of putting off of something important for a more convenient time.

Procrastination is the thief of time.

Peter, James and John in the Garden.

The enemy stole a very precious moment in time that never came back to these apostles.

James 4:

13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow

Procrastination robs you of the opportunity for service.

Lu 9:

59And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Procrastination robs you of the opportunity to be successful.

The stories of

John  Keeble  a financial planner.

Charles Schwab and Ivy Lee.

Procrastination robs you of the opportunity for Salvation.

The most dangerous of all possibilities.

Acts 24:

24And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. 25And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Felix

Antonius  Felix was Greek by birth.

Was appointed procurator of Judea by his brother.

He had strong ties to the Romans

His position cause him to meet Paul.

Drusilla  -  Wife of Felix.

One of three daughters of Herod Agrippa I.

Felix stole her from husband

She became his third wife.

Her sister was married to the king

Her father murdered James brother of John.

Her great uncle Herod Antipas beheaded John the Baptist.

Her great grand father Heard the great murdered the babies of Bethlehem

This was now her moment for Salvation and she lost it.

Paul’s sermon was exactly what they needed.

Righteousness

Temperance

Judgment to come

Their response was V25 Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee  -    That time and the feeling never came again.

Two major problems with Procrastination

Procrastination never takes into account the uncertainty of life

James 4:

13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow

Procrastination never takes into account the uniqueness of conviction

Felix met Paul but the situation was never the same.

D.L Moody Preaching in Chicago on October 8, 1871.

What will you do with Jesus.

Chapter 12

1Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them
