Slaying the Giants of Discouragement.
To lose courage, to lose hope,
To faint, To
lose heart.
Moses.
Num. 11:
10Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their
families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was
kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased. 11And Moses said unto
the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not
found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon
me? 12Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that
thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father
beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
13Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they
weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat. 14I am not
able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. 15And
if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found
favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
Elijah
I Kings 19:
4But he himself went a day’s journey into the
wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for
himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my
life; for I am not better than my fathers.
Jeremiah
20
7O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived:
thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one
mocketh me. 8For since I
spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD
was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily. 9Then I said, I
will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word
was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with
forbearing, and I could not stay.
Reasons for discouragement.
Failure due to frustration.
Neh. 4:
10And
Fearsome and Negative Criticism.
Neh. 4:
What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify
themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they
revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned? 3Now Tobiah the Ammonite was
by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even
break down their stone wall.
Fear.
11And our adversaries said, They shall not
know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and
cause the work to cease. 12And it came to pass, that when the Jews
which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times…
Use five stones to slay these giants.
Prayer.
Cry out to God
Neh. 4:
4Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their
reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of
captivity:

Work at it. Do something, Just try your best.
6So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined
together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.

a watch against them day and night, because of them.

14And I looked, and rose up, and said unto
the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid
of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for
your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

Ch 6:
1Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and
Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the
wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I
had not set up the doors upon the gates;) 2That Sanballat and Geshem
sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the
villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief. 3And
I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I
cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down
to you?
